Fetish: Elegant Objects of Seductive Obsession

May 2-25, 1997

Curated by Linda Hesh

Everyday we see the uniform of black suits and white shirts in downtown DC But one wonders what goes on at night for this same city to (be) able to support so many shops of another type of black clothing. Latex, leather, and vinyl make up a different type of power suit.  Fetish consists of 9 artists from the DC-Baltimore area whose work delves into areas of seductive obsession.  They work in sensual materials not always associated with art: leather, feathers, metal chains, rubber, and gemstones.  Their inspiration comes from the dark side of desire. The work is menacing, enticing, elegant, dangerous, haunting and beautiful. The attention to detail and careful craftsmanship demonstrates how serious each artist is about their private compulsions. The exhibit is accompanied by live performances in the theater each Sunday in May at 3pm.
