Molotov Theatre Presents:
Blood, Sweat, & Fears:
A Grand Guignol Sick Carbaret

Translated from the French by Richard Hand and Michael Wilson

July 7 – July 31, 2016
$25 General / $20 DCAC Members

Get ready for some scary, campy, sexy fun from the turn of the 19th century, courtesy of the warped minds of D.C.’s Molotov Theatre Group.

Blood, Sweat & Fears: A Grand Guignol Sick Cabaret features English translations of three nearlyforgotten one-act plays from the Theatre du Grand Guignol, the influential style of French horror theater that was popular from the 1890s to the 1960s. (President Eisenhower was a patron!
Look it up!)

Stitched together by bawdy mistress of ceremonies Bella Donna, the production uses music, laugh and scares to take you back to a simpler time for the horror and suspense genre.

Director: Alex Zavistovich; Assistant Director: Elliott Kashner; Composer: Gregory Thomas Martin Lighting Designer: Pete Vargo; Costume Designer: Jesse Shipely; Set Designer: Mary Seng; Stage Manager: Sara Smith

Featuring: Jen Bevan, Zack BrewsterGeisz, Elizabeth Colandene, Katie Culligan, David Dieudonne, Brian Kraemer, Alex Miletich IV, Fabiolla Da Silva, Jennifer Restak, Mallory Shear, Annette Mooney Wasno, and Gray West

• This show will be featured as a case study in a textbook planned for 2017 on the Grand Guignol tradition, to be released by the University of Exeter Press.
• Parental discretion advised: May not be appropriate for some children under age 13.
• The running time is approximately one hour and 20 minutes, with no late admission and no readmission.

About the one-act plays in Blood, Sweat & Fears: A Grand Guignol Sick Cabaret:
The Lighthouse Keepers: A father and son, caring for a remote lighthouse, settle in for the long haul, with the next boat of provisions weeks away. Then one of the two reveals a secret that locks father and son in a struggle to the death.
Tics (or Doing the Deed) : A sex farce about a young couple visiting the country estate of a wealthy doctor and his wife. What the women don’t know is when things get hot, the men can’t keep from hiding signs of their arousal.
The Last Kiss: A young man, convalescing in a hospital after having been scarred by a jealous lover invites the woman to his room to make peace with her. As things progress, “peace” may not really be what he’s after.

It’s our second annual Red Nose Day charity comedy show! This year, help Press Play raise money for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Teens and Young Adults. Last year we raised over $770 for a local food bank. Help us raise even more, and help the Ulman fund help young folks diagnosed with cancer.

Nearly 70,000 young adults are diagnosed with cancer in the United States each year. The Ulman fund changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. Read more about the Ulman fund here: http://ulmanfund.org/

This is our line-up for this night of comedy for a cause:

Press Play hosts and produces a monthly show featuring some of the best comedy, music, and storytelling acts in the area!

Press Play was founded in 2010 and, not to brag or anything, has yet to have a show with any form of flatulence-based humor. Seriously. This is not a joke. We keep track. Press Play has performed at venues across the country such as the iO West Festival, Steel Stacks, and the Del Close Marathon. We also perform regularly at improv theaters around DC, and once at a birthday party. The birthday boy threw cake.

Dudes on Dudes:
Dudes on Dudes (DoD) is an independent longform improv troupe from Washington, DC. featuring: Ahmed Amonette, John Beck, Nicholas Boros, Charles Bowles, Anthony Cusumano, Phil Greene, Keegan Hines, and David Richman; coached by Xavier Padin. Members of the group met during their Harold class at Washington Improv Theater and have since worked together to master the Harold format and take over the comedy scene in DC. Members of DoD have also trained at DC Improv Comedy School, The Unified Scene Theater, Dojo Comedy and The Second City in Chicago.

Cake Bagel:
Cake Bagel is as whimsical as pink icing and as savory as smoked salmon. Or at least that’s what they tell themselves to justify their pre-show carbo-loading. Formed in 2012, the troupe has logged several years’ worth of shows around the Washington, D.C. area, including featured appearances at Washington Improv Theater’s Seasonal Disorder, Harold Night and road shows. Cake Bagel has also brought its glutenous goodness to the Del Close Marathon, North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, Baltimore Improv Festival, District Improv Festival and Chicago Improv Festival. Bold, character-driven and super-fun, a Cake Bagel show is like having your cake…and eating a bagel, too. Cake Bagel is Sophia Cai, Tim Hunt, Jordana Mishory, Richie Pepio and Julia Rocchi. The team is coached by Jonathan Murphy.

Jon Watkins and Porter Ryan:
2/3rds of The Bloody Onions, Porter Ryan and Jon Watkins join us tonight in the hopes of rocking our collective socks off with their musical stylings, ranging from blues to Irish to folk. Porter comes to us from the Palisades of DC, while Jon inhabits the sleepy borough of Kensington, MD.
