AN AVANT THEATRE EXPERIENCE

Date: Friday, April 29, 2022
Time: 7:30 PM
Tickets: $30 – $45. Buy Tickets!
Age Restriction:

Unrest Unravel is an avant-theatre experience that unlocks the hidden “magic” behind the visible perceptions of Kinbaku performance revealing unnoticed emotions and the intimacy of interdisciplinary relationships. By summoning the beings that hold the secrets of this practice, they form happiness, anger, sadness, jealousy, and other human emotions into movements, accompanied by unique types of foreign sounds not usually heard in this world.

Joining us this night is a rare opening performance by Japanese Butoh master, Azumi OE. It stimulates the subconscious memory of space and time. Azumi invites silent conversation between the human body and material landscape, where subject becomes object, object becomes subject. Blurred border transforms to the new born story as it would be an infinity reflection.

After only one showing in Baltimore, MD in 2021, Unrest Unravel has decided to bring it to Washington, DC for 1 night only. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to follow these elusive embodiments as they aim to redefine the use of such tools which can elevate the human mind and body.

Verse 1 – Piazzolla Live by Trifilio Tango Trio
Verse 2 – Requiem Today Choreography/Scenario by Olga Aru and performed by Aru Dell’Arte

This sophisticated performance dares to provoke your imagination. First Verse represents Emmanuel Trifilio and The New Trifilio Tango Trio playing the music of Astor Piazzolla. The passion, drama, and heart of traditional tango are infused with the idioms and colors of Emmanuel Trifilio, an Argentinian composer, forging his musical path in America. Three instrumental voices represent – bandoneon, piano, and bass.

Second Verse is spoken in the language of movement in the world premiere of Requiem Today, choreographed and staged by Ukrainian choreographer Olga Aru and performed by Aru Dell’Arte ensemble. Requiem Today breaks through the barriers of prejudice and reveals humanity while reflecting on the extraordinary and courageous nature of humankind. Each chapter of this ballet carries an encrypted message. Expressive and bold, this show brings a glimpse of hope and unity, as well as incorporating a gender-neutral approach in partnering. All seven chapters are a puzzle to solve on one’s own.

A brand-new original musical about thirteen real-life dare devils who took the plunge and went over Niagara Falls.

Niagara explores the reasoning and results of risking one’s life for a chance of riches, glory, or ironically, self-preservation. We join thirteen real-life dare devils as they recount their tales in the Bridge Street Tavern in ways as wild and varied as the dare devils themselves as they drink, laugh, cry and sing the night away. Niagara dramatizes over 100 years of history and the historical figures that accompany it. Niagara takes these historical figures, the real-life daredevils, and allows them to interact based on their common decision, and ultimate action, to go over NiagaraFalls. With musical compositions as unique and varied as the stories they accompany; Niagara is certain to connect with audiences of any era.
