From the Artist
Originally from Detroit, MI, visual artist, Rachael Bohlander, resides and works in Washington, D.C. Her work, which includes painting, collage and mixed media wall sculpture, is grounded in time and place, through careful observation of her neighborhood and plant life, combined with experimental forms and techniques.
Bohlander received an MFA from the New York Studio School, NYC, following which she was the Artist in Residence at the School’s post-graduate sculpture residency in DUMBO Brooklyn. She additionally holds a BA from Washington University in St Louis and a JD from Tulane Law School, New Orleans, with a specialty in Environmental Law. She has served as faculty at the Washington Studio School, Washington, D.C., since 2021, teaching Introduction to Drawing and Constructed Sculpture.
Bohlander is a FY24 and FY25 recipient of the Arts & Humanities Fellowship Program Grant through the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Committed to increasing public access to art and art education, Bohlander works with Sculpture Forum and Brooklyn-based The Jonathan and Barbara Silver Foundation to create discussion-based videos about sculptors, specific sculpture works and exhibitions, offered free to the public online.
Her artwork has been included in solo and group shows in D.C. and the surrounding region, as well as New York, Miami and Seattle, and can be found in private collections throughout the U.S. and Canada and the Washington D.C. Department of General Services public collection. Bohlander has completed murals in Denver, CO and Apex, NC.
